Mao - Worst Restaurant in Dublin?
Against my better judgement we went for a supposedly quick meal to the "Mao" restaurant in DĂșn Laoghaire last night. Now, like any real western male, I am deeply suspicious of Asian food - no potatoes, too much rice, eating with sticks, etc - but this was not the cause of the problem. The problem was that the food, drink and service were so bad that we just walked out of the place having waited for 45 minutes for our main courses. The starters (well mine anyway) was the most tasteless piece of chicken that could ever have existed. The wine was undrinkable and managed to give me a headache within about 2 minutes of taking my first, and only, drink from it. The waiters were extremely successful at the avoiding eye contact game however they did manage to notice when we got up to leave. The only thing I will say in their defence was that they apologised and did not expect payment for what we had eaten and drank. And to think there are so many nice places to eat in within a short distance of there - what a waste of time.

I'm glad Mao turned out to be bad.
To repeat the point that others have expressed better, calling a restaurant Mao is a bad joke. Would we go to a restaurant called Stalin? Or Hitler?
I certainly thought about that as I sat there not eating. "Come on down to Hitler's Frankfurter joint - don't forget to bring all the family for lots of fun (jews, gays, disabled, blacks not welcome)

A restaurant called "Hitler's Cross" just opened in Bombay, India.
Google up the Washington Post story on it--the URL keeps cutting off when i try posting it here.
Cheers!
